Work and Family

Behind every family-friendly company is a set of responsible HR policies. This includes taking into account the demographic changes of our society and remaining open to individual and legitimate requests to strike a balance between work and family commitments.

After thorough examination, Vorwerk received basic certification under a "Work and Family" audit conducted by the charitable Hertie Foundation in Germany in 2006. We define family as the central element of our lives – by which we mean the extended family network of several generations – characterised by mutual responsibility for one another.

This is why the requirements of this audit go beyond issues like childcare in emergencies or support for parental leave for fathers. For, although our society is having fewer and fewer children, there will be more people in future having to look after elderly relatives than there are today. At a time when the question of generational responsibility is becoming increasingly pressing, we are making a real effort to offer our employees satisfactory solutions in the future, too.

This includes such provisions as flexible working hours or the option of working from home.

Vorwerk has set itself three goals as part of the "Work and Family" audit. They are as follows:
  1. We want to remain an attractive employer, with the corporate goal of continuing to grow even in the clear face of demographic change.

  2. We want to maintain a credible connection between our external appearance and our internal substance by practising family-friendly HR policies.

  3. We want motivated, highly capable and willing employees who share this family-centred philosophy.
